The Media Lounge is a resource for journalists and toaster fundi's. It provides resources for reports and stories about the freedom toaster, for anyone who wants to spread the word!
I recently wanted to get the knoppix live dvd, cuz it has about 10gb of debian software on it. When I tried the one closet to me the monash toaster it did not want to burn dvds. I would click on the burn now button and nothing would happen. I also tried to combine cds to dvds, but the same response nothing. It dose not bring up the toater icon in on the left side.
The next clost one to me is at cresta, I thought that I might be able to use their toater. Last time i used it there dvd wasnt work but that was over 3 months ago. When i arrived i found the same notice and the same behaviour as the monash toaster. You select the option but nothing happens.
Could some one please look into it, these problems can give opensource a bad name.
I've read about and saw a freedom toaster at Futurex but did not get the oppotunity to use one yet. Yesterday I was walking around in the Zone in Rosebank and saw the freedom toaster next to CD Wherehouse. I ran to the nearest store to get some blank cd's which was at the CNA in the Rosebank mall. When I however got back, to my dismay. the toaster was not working. Seems as if some had damaged the top cd tray and the toaster would not use any of the available cd trays to burn. So I could make a few recommendation for the build of these toasters:
1) A camera, which is not that expensive these days, could be included to record any person who purposely damages the toaster.
2) The toaster should be built in a way that is utilises all the cd trays even if one is broken.
3) These days many people have limited access to either wap sites or, even easier, sms via cell phones. An sms number could be setup for any person wanting to report a problem with the toaster.
4) The Rosebank toaster is not listed on this website.
I had a similar problem with some debian cds, that i burnt. Latter i reburnt them on a differnt brand of cds, TDK. TDK worked fine, no problems and the wrote faster then the cheap fong kong cds I got from a less reputable brand name.
Monash and Cresta toaster dont toast dvds
