Impi Linux and The Shuttleworth Foundation to Host a Combined Exhibition at LinuxWorld 2006

Impi Linux and The Shuttleworth Foundation have announced a combined exhibition of several related initiatives; these include the Linux Professional Institute (LPI), Freedom Toaster, tuXlabs and Impi Linux itself. The exhibition will be co-hosted at LinuxWorld, taking place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 16 to 19 May, co-located with Equip and Futurex.

Says tuXlab project manager, Hilton Theunissen, "These four initiatives will be flying the banner of the Shuttleworth Foundation at LinuxWorld. We share a common message surrounding the promotion of Linux and open source software and want to bring this to the public as a united front."

He continues to explain what visitors to the event can expect from tuXlabs, "We are continuing our commitment to the public in terms of teaching them more about tuXlabs. The idea is to share our model with the general public, specifically focusing on education initiatives. We will be distributing CDs at the exhibition and chatting to members of the public who wish to learn more."

"This will be a great opportunity for individuals and organisations who want to replicate tuXlabs in their environments to speak to us," he adds.

Ross Addis, solutions architect for Impi Linux, describes their participation at LinuxWorld, "We will be using this opportunity to launch 'The Mile High Club' a new partner program into the market," he enthuses. "We will also be displaying our current software line-up including Ubuntu " which is the base of the Impi Linux products. Jeff Waugh, one of the key drivers behind the Ubuntu and Gnome projects will also be delivering a keynote address at the conference track of the exhibition. Impi Linux has a surprise in store, surrounding Impi's corporate theme."

The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) will also be included in the combined exhibition area. "We will be handing out promotional items," says Karien Bezuidenhout, project manager for the Shuttleworth Foundation, who is the local representative of the LPI, "and also hosting exam sessions for LPI and Ubuntu Certified Professional certifications on 18 May. LPI sessions will take place at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00, and the Ubuntu exam will be offered at 14:00. Anyone is welcome to come and write their LPI 101, 102 and Ubuntu Certified Professional exams, however, they must register for these sessions online at www.lpi.org.za. Charges will be R300 per module written and is free to attendees of the LinuxWorld conference track."

"This will be the first occurrence of the Ubuntu certification exam in the world," she adds.

Lastly, Jason Hudson, project manager of the Freedom Toaster project, explains that the Toaster will be present at LinuxWorld. "Visitors to the show will be able to use the Freedom Toaster to burn CDs from the wide range of open source software, Linux distributions and other content on offer," he says. "We will also be at the exhibition to chat to individuals and organisations who are interested in the Freedom Toaster project."
